Neuromodulatory role of relaxin-3/RXFP3 signaling in stress- and anxiety-related circuits: Insights from the rat ventral dentate gyrus

Gabriela Stopka, Aleksandra Trenk, Anna Gugula, Kinga Przybylska, Aleksandra Nogaj, Emilia Goszczynska, Andrew L. Gundlach, Anna Blasiak · FENS Forum 2024

The dentate gyrus of the ventral hippocampus (vDG) is strongly implicated in the pathophysiology of anxiety disorders. vDG is heavily innervated by the nucleus incertus (NI), a dorsal pontine locus highly sensitive to neurogenic stress and the main source of the neuropeptide, relaxin-3 (RLN3) in the rat brain. RLN3 receptor (RXFP3) activation has been shown to modulate behaviours, including stress-related anxiety. However, the effect of RLN3/RXFP3 signaling on vDG neuronal activity has not been examined. Therefore, this study investigated the influence of RLN3 on rat vDG neuronal activity ex v

Representation of spatial context over time by interneurons in the dentate gyrus

Aurore Cazala, Thomas Hainmueller, Li-Wen Huang, Marlene Bartos · FENS Forum 2024

The hippocampus plays a pivotal role in the formation of episodic memories, facilitating spatial navigation and detection of novel stimuli. Within this structure, the dentate gyrus (DG) is crucial for discriminating novel from familiar content. Despite GABAergic inhibitory interneurons (INs) being increasingly recognized to participate to the hippocampal computation by controlling the activity of principal cells, the specific mechanisms by which they contribute to the encoding of episodic memories remain elusive. This study explores how interneurons (INs) representations of spatial context are
