Protostars and bipolar flows

Sylvie Cabrit · Obs-Paris

Young stars eject powerful flows while they are still forming. This seminar reviews their observed properties and competing explanations for their origin. High-resolution observations from Hubble, Webb, ALMA and NOEMA reveal new structure and help evaluate how these outflows influence both stellar growth and planet-forming environments.

Galaxies amplified by gravitational lenses

Mirka Dessauges-Zavadsky · Geneva

Gravitational lensing lets astronomers resolve the dense, turbulent molecular clouds and giant star-forming clumps of young galaxies. This seminar combines Hubble, JWST and ALMA observations with simulations of unstable, gas-rich disks. It examines how unusually massive clouds and efficient star formation contribute to the assembly of galactic stellar mass over cosmic time.
