An IgLON5 knockout mouse model results in mild behavioral alterations, without neurodegeneration

Ana Beatriz Serafim, Jon Landa, Mercedes Alba, Estibaliz Maudes, Laura Molina-Porcel, Anna Garcia-Serra, Francesco Mannara, Josep Dalmau, Francesc Graus, Lidia Sabater · FENS Forum 2024

Anti-IgLON5 is a rare neurological disorder characterized by brainstem dysfunction, abnormal movements, sleep alterations, autoantibodies against IgLON5, and neurodegeneration, sometimes with neuronal deposits of tau. IgLON5 is a neural cell adhesion molecule of unknown function. This study was aimed to determine the effects of loss of function of IgLON5 in a Knockout (IgLON5-KO) mouse model assessing brain morphology, social behavior, and symptoms.IgLON5-KO mouse was produced by CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Two-month-old IgLON5-KO and wild-type mice were subjected to a comprehensive battery of beh

The roles of ketimine reductase mu-crystallin in transient forebrain ischemia

Dae Young Yoo, Woosuk Kim, Dae Won Kim, In Koo Hwang · FENS Forum 2024

In this study, we explored the neuroprotective properties of a novel Tat-CRYM recombinant protein, designed with a Tat domain to enhance blood-brain barrier permeability, within a transient cerebral ischemia using Mongolian gerbils. Our focus was on Ketimine reductase mu-crystallin (CRYM), a protein with widespread distribution in the brain, including areas like the cerebral cortex, corticospinal tract, and basal ganglia, and its diminished expression in neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington's and Alzheimer's.We assessed the intracellular uptake of Tat-CRYM protein by NSC34 cells, reve
