The operating regime of primate sensory cortex

Jagruti J. Pattadkal,Boris Ze,Ila R Fiete,Nicholas Priebe · COSYNE 2022

Neuronal sensitivity and selectivity to our environment arise from the transformation of external inputs by the cortical circuitry. We dissect the circuitry for this emergence using a combination of large-scale simultaneous measurements from single cells in awake animals and computational models. In area MT, an area of the neocortex that processes visual motion, even weak motion signals evoke selective responses in the presence of noise. We also observe tuned patterns of activity in the absence of visual motion that suggest feature-selective amplification within the circuit. In addition, respo

Molecular markers of oculomotor motoneurons in adult mice

Alonso Cerdeño-Arévalo, Rebeca Mejías, Angel Manuel Pastor · FENS Forum 2024

Classically, oculomotor motoneurons (MNs) have been described as a single homogeneous group based on their firing pattern. However, recent anatomical and electrophysiological findings from our group suggest that there are subpopulations of neurons in these nuclei, i.e., those innervating single (SIF) and multiply innervated muscle fibers (MIF) differ in their neuronal sensitivity and recruitment order. The diversity of MNs in the mature spinal cord has been extensively studied, revealing a variety of markers that identify subgroups, such as alpha, gamma, slow and fast fatigable, and fatigue-re
