In Bio-Informatics and Computational Biology

A six-hour EMBL-EBI virtual course for wet-lab researchers and bioinformaticians who want to interpret genetic variation through protein structure and function. Participants follow a VCF-based example through Ensembl VEP, UniProt, PDBe-KB and AlphaFold DB, with trainer-supported practical work on Zoom. The programme runs 10:00–16:00 GMT on 26 November 2026. The course currently has a waiting list; the official page lists a £50 fee and 35 places. See the linked course page for current availability, prerequisites and registration.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common and progressive type of brain disorder that affects parts of the brain responsible for memory, speaking, thinking, and many other important functions. Apart from its common risk factors such as aging, environment, and lifestyle elements, the risk of developing AD largely depends on gene variants, which present a promising opportunity for identifying novel diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers. Early studies have revealed numerous SNPs simultaneously associated with AD and other diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and mor
