Primary sensory cortices are functionally organized according to topographic principles, such as the tonotopic map of auditory cortex. Recently, chronic recordings of neuronal activity have revealed that single cell stimulus tuning can undergo continuous remodeling, which appears to be in conflict with the stability of sensory maps. Using longitudinal two-photon imaging in the auditory cortex of 12 mice (21.506 neurons), we attempt to reconcile the conflicting observations of unstable single-cell tuning properties and stable population-level topographic maps. Using intrinsic imaging and chroni

Prism Adaptation (PA) is a visuomanual adaptation paradigm, recently shown to induce multimodal cognitive aftereffects affecting visuospatial representation, auditory representations or auditory divided attention. The present study aimed at investigating whether PA can lower the auditory detection threshold in healthy young and older adults. Fifty-eight healthy subjects (30 young adults aged 24.4 ± 4.6 years and 28 older adults aged 70.9 ± 6.2 years) performed an audiometry test to determine their hearing threshold. Then, 1000 Hz pure tones were played randomly in their left or right ear at th

Sensory surprise leads to cortical phase reset, but it can also drive neurophysiological changes in behavior such as motor inhibition. We tested if attention to auditory deviants leads to phase reset and entrainment of respiratory cycles. We asked 25 healthy young adult participants to detect deviant pure tones embedded within an isochronous roving standard paradigm. Deviant events occurred either after 3, 6 or 9 standard events, defining a hazard rate of event onset, while the magnitude and direction of deviancy were randomized. Results show that respiration entrained not to the stimulation r
