The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics convenes its triennial conference on applied and numerical linear algebra. The programme covers matrix computations, machine learning, quantum simulation, inverse problems, high-performance computing, dynamical systems, model reduction, optimal transport, network science, tensor methods and related applications. Minitutorial and minisymposium proposals are due 26 October 2026 and contributed presentation abstracts due 23 November 2026.
Quantum thermodynamics for lattice gauge theories

Nicole Yunger Halpern (NIST, QuICS and University of Maryland) examines how to describe nonequilibrium matter in the early universe and particle colliders from the Standard Model. Classical lattice-gauge calculations have limited reach, motivating quantum simulation. Local Gauss-law constraints create an intricate Hilbert-space structure that complicates thermodynamic definitions for systems coupled to reservoirs, both at equilibrium and during nonequilibrium processes. The talk develops definitions of work and heat through strong-coupling thermodynamics, applying them to instantaneous quench
Postdoctoral Research Positions in Condensed Matter and Quantum Information Theory at TU Munich
Closes
The condensed-matter and quantum-information theory groups seek postdoctoral researchers for autumn 2027, with flexible starting dates. Research spans quantum many-body dynamics, entanglement, correlated materials, topology, superconductivity, quantum optics, ultracold gases, quantum simulation and computation. Successful applicants can join international experimental and theoretical collaborations. Pay follows the German TV-L agreement. Submit supporting materials by 22 November 2026; the advert notes that later applications may also be considered.
