Comparison of acetylcholine release in the mouse cerebral cortex in response to standard visual stimuli vs dynamic virtual reality environment

Julie Azrak, Hossein Sedighi, Jose Daniel Tirado Ramirez, Yulong Li, Elvire Vaucher · FENS Forum 2024

Acetylcholine (ACh), a potent neuromodulator in the central nervous system, plays a pivotal role in visual processing, attention, and cognitive flexibility. Most of the studies have been using standard visual stimuli, but the advance of virtual reality (VR) tools is promising for better elucidating the dynamics of this neuromodulator in visually guided behaviors. The present study aims to explore the spatiotemporal activation of cortical cholinergic fibers during the presentation of a VR dynamic environment compared to standard visual stimuli using mesoscopic ACh imaging in awake mice.Choliner

Making decisions often requires the integration of multiple pieces of information that may become available at different times. An extensive body of research has investigated the neural mechanisms underpinning evidence accumulation in tasks where information is continuously available, but less is known about how humans make decisions based on temporally separate samples. Here, we ran two electroencephalography (EEG) experiments using a modified version of the standard Random Dot Kinematogram (RDK). In our tasks (N = 22, N = 21), two pulses of evidence were presented separated by "gaps" of vary
