Topic: South Africa

Develop an original research project during a residential fellowship in Stellenbosch, South Africa, in the first semester of 2028. All disciplines are eligible. STIAS prioritises interdisciplinary exchange and conceptual or analytical work; it does not provide laboratories or fund fieldwork during residence. Submit a cover letter, project proposal, CV with publications and a work sample by 31 October 2026, 23:59 UTC.

Build new research partnerships across Sweden, South Africa and another eligible African country. Themes include sustainable health, green transition, migration and urbanisation, and democracy and indigenous knowledge. Projects run from March 2027 to July 2028. Both PIs must submit: the Swedish PI uses the official application template and email instructions, while the South African PI uses NRF Connect. The applicant deadline is 3 November 2026; South African institutional endorsement follows by 10 November.
