About
Build new research partnerships across Sweden, South Africa and another eligible African country. Themes include sustainable health, green transition, migration and urbanisation, and democracy and indigenous knowledge. Projects run from March 2027 to July 2028. Both PIs must submit: the Swedish PI uses the official application template and email instructions, while the South African PI uses NRF Connect. The applicant deadline is 3 November 2026; South African institutional endorsement follows by 10 November.

Covers: Per consortium: up to SEK 100,000 from SASUF plus ZAR 160,000 from NRF. Supports research mobility, postgraduate exchanges, workshops and stakeholder activities. Excludes salaries, scholarships, large equipment, consultant and project-management fees.
Host location: Sweden, South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
The consortium must include Sweden, South Africa and at least one additional eligible SGCI country; participating Swedish and South African institutions must be SASUF members.

At least one Swedish and one South African SASUF member university, plus a university in a listed SGCI country. Both national PIs need PhDs. One proposal per consortium and per PI; previous projects cannot simply be continued.
