About

Carnegie Mellon's Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a two-year postdoctoral position beginning 1 September 2027 in applied analysis and related areas of applied and computational mathematics, connected to the NSF Research Training Group grant "Frontiers of Applied Analysis". The position may be extended to a third year depending on funding and performance. Preference goes to candidates with outstanding promise or accomplishments across applied and computational mathematics, including partial differential equations, calculus of variations, probability and stochastic analysis, numerical analysis and scientific machine learning; interdisciplinary interests and commitment to teaching and mentoring student research are valued.

Because of the RTG funding, only U.S. citizens, nationals and permanent residents are eligible. Review of applications begins on 1 December 2026.

Requirements

PhD in mathematics or a closely related discipline; U.S. citizenship, nationality or permanent residency. Materials go through both MathJobs and Interfolio: cover letter, CV, publication list, research statement, teaching statement and at least three recommendation letters solicited through MathJobs.
