Privacy Protection and Reliable Evaluation in Multimodal AI

Paola Cascante-Bonilla · Stony Brook University

Multimodal large language models perform well on many visual and textual reasoning tasks, but assistive applications expose concerns about privacy and reliable real-world evaluation. This talk examines document understanding and spatial reasoning in three-dimensional environments. An agentic privacy-protection method masks personal information selectively while preserving visual context needed for question answering. SceneCritic, a symbolic evaluator, applies explicit spatial heuristics to test the semantic and geometric consistency of generated indoor layouts. Together, these projects investi

Do AI Systems Have World Models? Probing Reasoning, Forecasting, and Generalization

Shiry Ginosar · Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago

…Spatial reasoning in language models and motion forecasting in visual models illustrate ways to probe those abilities, along with the limits of inferring world models from systems trained on human-produced representations.

The effect of pubertal development on spatial reasoning

Jorge Borrani, Gabriela Sanchez, Gonzalo Guerra et al. · FENS Forum 2024

Spatial reasoning is the capacity to manipulate visual representations. Performance on spatial reasoning tasks has been related to testosterone, which increases in males during pubertal development. Nevertheless, it is not clear if children of different pubertal development have indeed differences in pubertal development, since the studies have not controlled the age and education of participants.Participants were 36 girls and 28 boys (10.28±0.98 years; 5.13±1.0 completed school years). The score on the Pubertal Development Scale was used to create high and low pubertal development groups, whi
