A novel experimental framework for simultaneous measurement of excitatory and inhibitory conductances

Daniel Müller-Komorowska,Ben Title,Gal Elyasaf,Yonatan Katz,Alexander Binshtok,Heinz Beck,Ilan Lampl · COSYNE 2022

The activity of neurons throughout the brain is determined by the precise relationship between excitatory and inhibitory inputs and disruption of this relationship underlies many psychiatric diseases. Whether these inputs covary over time or between repeated stimuli remains unclear due to the lack of experimental methods for measuring both inputs simultaneously. We developed a new analytical framework for simultaneous measurement of both the excitatory and inhibitory neuronal inputs during a single trial of a current clamp recording. This can be achieved by injecting a current composed of two

Hyposensitivity to thermal stimulus with prefrontal cortical implication in two animal models of autism spectrum disorder

Ming-chia Chu, Pei-Yu Kao, Ssu-Chi Tsai, Han-Fang Wu, Hsiang Chi, Shu-Jui Chia, Yi-Chao Lee, Hui-Ching Lin · FENS Forum 2024

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorder with genetic and environmental origins. Alterations in sensory disturbance have been clinically linked to socio-emotional problems in individuals with ASD but remain understudied in the research field. Recent evidence has shown that the prefrontal cortex (PFC), a brain region plays an essential role in social cognition, is involved in pain management. Hence, this study aims to qualify nociceptive response of ASD and the implication of PFC. Valproate (VPA)-exposed offspring and Tsc2 heterozygous knockout (Tsc2+/-) mic

Ocular biomarkers for early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease in non-human primate model

Louiza Arouche Delaperche, Matias Golding, Awen Louboutin, Thomas Buffet, Deborah Varro, Marc Dhenain, Fabien Pifferi, Olivier Marre, Serge Picaud · FENS Forum 2024

Alzheimer's disease (AD) develops undiagnosed for years. Diagnosis of AD remains relatively invasive and restricted to specialized centers calling for development of the new diagnostic markers. Retina may be an attractive source of such markers because it is an accessible part of the CNS (in vivo imaging and electrophysiology). Recent studies indicate pathological alterations in retina of AD patients such as retinal ganglion cell degeneration. Recently, we showed a dysfunction in the glutaminergic photoreceptor synapsis associated with a strong expression of phosphorylated tau proteins (p-tau)
