In Bio-Informatics and Biochemistry

A six-hour EMBL-EBI virtual course for wet-lab researchers and bioinformaticians who want to interpret genetic variation through protein structure and function. Participants follow a VCF-based example through Ensembl VEP, UniProt, PDBe-KB and AlphaFold DB, with trainer-supported practical work on Zoom. The programme runs 10:00–16:00 GMT on 26 November 2026. The course currently has a waiting list; the official page lists a £50 fee and 35 places. See the linked course page for current availability, prerequisites and registration.

This webinar explains how researchers can retrieve and analyse protein information using UniProt. It demonstrates advanced queries, BLAST searches, peptide searches, and multiple-sequence alignments, including how to navigate outputs and use functional annotations to interpret them. It also discusses how identifiers, ontologies, and controlled vocabularies organize biological knowledge, and how identifier mapping connects resources. The session is suitable for scientists at any career stage who want to use UniProt or extend their existing skills; undergraduate-level biology knowledge is helpfu
