Exploring the effects of psilocybin and ketamine (novel antidepressants) on the electroencephalogram (EEG) of C57BL/6 mice: A comparative analysis

Katarzyna Marszałek, Małgorzata Domżalska, John Huxter · FENS Forum 2024

Treatment-resistant depression is a global public health concern, leaving a significant portion of the population without effective remedies. To address this issue, innovative strategies are urgently needed. Psilocybin, a non-selective 5-HT2AR agonist, has been found to alleviate depressive mood in individuals with treatment resistant depression (Carhart-Harris et al., 2017) Ketamine exhibits robust and enduring antidepressant properties both in patients and preclinical models. (Krystal et al., 2013). Sleep patterns are often affected by depressive disorders, making wireless EEG a valuable too

Time window for early intervention in tauopathy mouse model

Benito Maffei, Nathaneal O'Neill, Guru Padmasola, Marco Leite, Chiara Dyson, Francisco Moreira, Vincent Magloire, Dimitri Kullmann, Gabriele Lignani · FENS Forum 2024

Early changes in network activity serve as distinctive hallmarks in tauopathies such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Frontotemporal Dementia. Decades before the onset of cognitive decline, many patients experience seizures which exacerbate the condition. Despite the recognised etiological overlaps between tauopathies and epilepsies, the relationship between tau and the development of circuit hyperexcitability is unclear and needs further investigation. Using wireless EEG to record intrahippocampal local field potentials (LFP), we characterised early biophysical alterations within the hippocampus of
