Workshop

Gradient flows and their perturbations in modeling, analysis, and geometry

About

A Banach Center workshop gathering experts who study phenomena sharing the structure of gradient flows. Central questions are whether a perturbation or a limit of gradient flows is still a gradient flow, the study of singularities, and the identification of special solutions and their stability. Beyond the mathematical theory, gradient flows are applied to modelling physical phenomena and industrial processes; the workshop covers theoretical foundations and applications to problems motivated by physics as well as abstract ones, for example in differential geometry, together with modelling and computational aspects. Leading themes are dissipative phenomena in continuum mechanics, geometric flows, flows in measure spaces and metric random walk spaces, models built on Cahn–Hilliard type equations, and free boundary problems with special emphasis on Stefan problems.
