PhDiaFusion2027 – From Physics to Measurement & Control: bridging the gaps for fusion power plants

About

PhDiaFusion is a biennial summer school on plasma diagnostics jointly organised by the Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) and the Institute for Magnetic Fusion Research (IRFM) of the French CEA. The 7th edition, "From Physics to Measurement and Control: bridging the gaps for fusion power plants", covers the challenges of a fusion reactor, the physics behind plasma diagnostics, diagnostic concepts, design and technologies, synthetic diagnostics and modelling, inverse problems, artificial intelligence and machine learning, real-time control, and data acquisition, processing and validation. It is aimed at bachelor's and master's students, PhD students and their supervisors, and young researchers working in nuclear fusion, plasma physics and diagnostics. Following a master-and-apprentice approach, lectures by international experts are paired with hands-on tutorials, and students can give oral presentations; selected peer-reviewed contributions will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Fusion Energy (Springer). EU-based master's students may be eligible for FuseNet travel and accommodation support.
