Workshop
Second Semiconductor Traceability and Provenance Workshop
About
Semiconductor supply chains span a complex network of design, fabrication, assembly and test, packaging, distribution, integration and deployment, and establishing confidence in the origin, identity, history and movement of semiconductor products requires connecting relevant events, information and evidence across that ecosystem. NIST is working with industry, government, academia and standards organisations to advance practical approaches to semiconductor traceability and provenance, and this workshop is the next step in that effort: its objective is to develop the initial structure and key elements of industry-wide guidance. It addresses a fundamental question: what data, artifacts and evidence can be generated, captured and shared to establish traceability and substantiate an assertion of semiconductor provenance? Participants examine the events and information generated across the semiconductor lifecycle to identify data elements and supply-chain events needed for traceability; artifacts and evidence that can substantiate provenance; information that can realistically be shared across organisational boundaries; common identifiers, definitions, relationships and formats; technical, operational, commercial and security considerations affecting information sharing; and opportunities for interoperability, standards and scalable implementation. Presentations from across the semiconductor ecosystem are followed by focused working sessions intended to produce an initial set of data elements, evidence types, artifacts and information-sharing concepts as a foundation for subsequent NIST guidance, standards development and industry implementation. The workshop builds on the February 2024 CHIPS R&D Semiconductor Supply Chain Trust and Assurance Data Standards Workshop (NIST CHIPS 1400-3), the April 2025 Trust and Provenance in the Semiconductor Supply Chain Workshop and the January 2026 Semiconductor Traceability and Provenance Workshop. Programme: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm EST.
