Build reproducible maps and spatial analyses of biodiversity and environmental data using R’s terra package. Practical work covers vector and raster data, projections, thematic and interactive maps, spatial queries, geometry operations and layer transformations. Participants calculate distances, buffers and home ranges, examine terrain and spatial autocorrelation, and combine raster and vector information through extraction, interpolation, map algebra and zonal statistics. Demonstrations and supervised exercises support automated workflows for research datasets; participants may bring their own spatial data. 23–27 November 2026, daily 15:00–18:00, Europe/Madrid (CET, UTC+1). Fifteen live hours plus 20 hours of exercises; instructor consultations 09:00–21:00. Spoken Spanish with English slides and scripts; prior R experience required. Sixteen places. Regular fee EUR 485, or EUR 388 for Ambassador Institutions. Live attendance is required for the certificate. Payment follows acceptance; advertised fees include VAT.

Create reproducible maps and perform GIS operations with R and the terra package. Working with raster and vector data, participants develop static, thematic, animated and interactive maps, then apply projections, clipping, resampling, buffers, intersections, zonal statistics and distance calculations. Environmental, geological and biodiversity examples connect visualization with spatial analysis, and participants may bring their own data. 2027-01-11–2027-01-15, 15:00–18:00 daily, Europe/Berlin (CET, UTC+01:00). Online course; fee €480. User-level R skills are required; prior GIS experience is optional. Annotated self-guided exercises complement live sessions. The full course costs €480; mapping and GIS components can also be booked separately at €270 each.

Learn geographic information systems through QGIS, with applications for biology, environmental sciences and other disciplines requiring spatial analysis. Guided demonstrations and exercises cover coordinate systems, vector and raster data, layer management and symbology. Participants perform spatial queries, clipping, intersections, buffers and area calculations, then use raster calculations and extract values for vector features. The course develops cartographic layout and export skills through a thematic map assembled progressively into a final project. 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10 March 2027, each 15:00–18:00, Europe/Madrid (CET, UTC+1). Fifteen live hours plus seven hours of individual work. English; no previous GIS experience required. Sixteen places. EUR 366 through 31 December 2026, then EUR 445; Ambassador Institution fees EUR 292.80 and EUR 356, respectively. Live attendance is required for the certificate. Payment follows acceptance; advertised fees include VAT.
