Glaciology, Atmospheric Science and symposium by International Glaciological Society
The symposium investigates how exchanges between land ice and the atmosphere control glacier mass balance and sea-level contributions. Surface energy, albedo, firn hydrology, aquifers and impermeable ice layers are considered alongside atmospheric circulation and boundary-layer processes.
Field observations, satellite measurements, numerical models and machine-learning emulators will be used to examine nonlinear feedbacks and improve projections of ice-sheet and glacier change. The International Glaciological Society convenes researchers studying both local surface processes and their representation in climate models.
