Low-cost optical sensing for healthcare

This scientific discussion meeting asks which nanoscale optical sensing approaches can deliver affordable, information-rich healthcare measurements. Its focus is continuous biochemical monitoring beyond conventional physiological wearables and diagnostic sensors. The programme examines interferometric biomarker detection, surface-enhanced Raman assays, nanophotonic sensing and translation toward practical diagnostic tools, comparing modalities and their potential for use across healthcare settings. Jeremy Baumberg and Duncan Graham organize the meeting; programme participants include Selim Ünlü, Karen Faulds and Jennifer Dionne.

Sessions take place on 9–10 November 2026, 09:00–17:00 GMT (Europe/London, UTC+0), at the Royal Society, 6–9 Carlton House Terrace, London, with online attendance also available.
