Pilot funding for new neuroscience projects intended to lead to further external support. The 2027 letter-of-intent round is open, with a deadline of 3 November 2026 at 16:00 US Central. Only nominees of invited institutions can apply; invited full proposals follow in March 2027.

Nomination required
Covers: USD 100,000 direct costs over two years under the 2027 guidelines. No PI salary recovery, indirect costs, travel or graduate-student stipends.
Host location: United States
Only US academic institutions directly invited by BRF may nominate a faculty member.

One nominated full-time assistant or associate professor per invited US academic institution. The project must be new and unfunded elsewhere. Full professors and research assistant/associate professors are excluded. Institutional nomination and signature are mandatory.
