Rolling support for independent junior research groups across disciplines, including neuroscience, physics, chemistry and machine learning. Researchers develop the scientific and teaching qualifications needed for a professorship at a German university or research institution.
Eligibility
Career stage: Postdoc · Early independent researcher
Apply with a supervisor or host
Covers: Six years, initially three plus three following evaluation. Modules cover the group-leader position, project staff, direct research costs and equipment, with additional eligible support.
Host location: Germany
Research group hosted in Germany. Applicants from abroad must state their intention to continue their research career in Germany.
Nationality or residence: Foreign applicants are eligible subject to the programme conditions.

Outstanding doctorate, normally two years of postdoctoral experience and application within four years of the PhD; six years for licensed medicine/psychology applicants and permitted extensions apply. Substantial international research experience is required. Applicants already qualified for a professorship or holding equivalent group funding are excluded.
