About

A three-month research programme for PhD students at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg near Vienna. Around 50 doctoral researchers each work with an IIASA mentor on a focused project that connects their PhD research to global sustainability challenges, for example groundwork for a thesis chapter or paper, or a new research direction. Applicants choose up to two IIASA research groups whose work fits their topic. Seminars, workshops, talks and a training programme add interdisciplinary exchange and skill development across IIASA's systems-analysis research on society, the economy and the environment. The programme runs full-time and in person in June, July and August 2027.

The application deadline is 10 January 2027 at 23:00 CET.
