NSF 26-517: Core Research in Biological Sciences (BIO Core)

Foundational biology from molecules and cells to organisms, populations, ecosystems and biomes. Named areas include biochemistry, genomics, synthetic biology, animal behavior, physiology and neural systems. Neural-systems research includes developmental, genetic, molecular and cellular organization, sensorimotor activation, synaptic and circuit plasticity, and computational approaches. The call also supports biological datasets and methods for observing, measuring, modeling and manipulating living systems. Single investigators, teams and consortia may propose; routine applications, product or drug development and later-stage deployment are outside scope. Proposals are accepted at any time; budgets and durations vary.

Eligible US institutions of higher education, US nonprofit non-academic research or educational organizations, and federally recognized Tribal Nations may submit. International branch-campus funding requires justification. The solicitation sets no additional PI or proposal-count restrictions.
