Principal Investigator Projects

Funding for investigator-led basic research in all disciplines, including neuroscience, at Austrian research institutions. Projects can run for up to 48 months, with personnel and other project-specific costs based on the proposed work. Applications are accepted year-round through elane and require the host institution’s submission approval. This is a grant for a qualified project leader and their team.

Applicants must be qualified to lead the proposed research and have an Austrian host with the necessary infrastructure. International applicants can apply through an eligible Austrian institution; consult the programme guidelines for full requirements. Applicants must transfer their main research focus to Austria if it is currently abroad; maintaining a permanent research focus above 50% outside Austria is ineligible. The lead-institution employment requirement is at least five hours weekly for the project duration.
