A ten-week research stay at KNIR in Rome for affiliated postdoctoral researchers who can demonstrate that access to Rome benefits their research. KNIR’s interdisciplinary profile includes material culture, archaeological evidence, archives and Rome’s connections with the wider world. The scholarship provides free lodging, an academic supervisor and library access; travel and other expenses must be supported by the researcher’s home institution or project. The spring 2027 cohorts begin on 21 January or 8 April 2027. Applications close on 1 November 2026 and the application form currently includes the postdoctoral category.

Host location: Italy

Host stay is at KNIR in Rome, Italy. Applicants must be affiliated with one of the six specified Dutch universities.

Affiliated postdoctoral researchers at the University of Groningen, Leiden University, University of Amsterdam, Utrecht University, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam or Radboud University Nijmegen. A Rome stay must benefit the research. Researchers outside these six partner universities are ineligible for this scholarship.
