Job Description

Join the African Climate and Development Initiative and its People in Nature and Climate Lab as a Chapter Scientist supporting the Africa chapter of IPCC AR7. The fellow will synthesize evidence on climate impacts, projected risks, adaptation and loss and damage, with particular attention to water and infrastructure. Duties include research synthesis, figures, publications and coordination with chapter authors. The fellowship offers ZAR 480,000 annually for up to two years, renewed subject to progress, and requires a start by 1 November 2026.

Requirements

  • Environmental-science PhD awarded within four years
  • on climate governance
  • water or infrastructure in Africa
  • strong publication record
  • literature review and quantitative or qualitative evidence-synthesis skills
  • excellent English and collaboration skills. No previous permanent full-time academic or professional post
  • based at ACDI in Cape Town. Being from an African country and already legally based in South Africa is listed as desirable.
