Detector Simulation Physicist

Job Description
CERN is recruiting a detector-simulation physicist to develop GPU-accelerated Monte Carlo software in the Geant4 team, with a focus on optical-photon transport. The work includes GPU algorithm design, validation against established CPU simulations, performance profiling and optimisation, and integration with experimental software frameworks. The 24-month hybrid appointment is based in Geneva with an ideal start date of 1 January 2027. Applications close on 11 October 2026 at 23:59 Geneva time.
Requirements
- Master's degree with two to six years of post-graduation experience
- or a PhD with no more than three years of post-graduation experience
- in physics
- computer science or a related field. Experience with modern C++
- GPU programming
- numerical validation
- testing
- profiling and optimisation is required
- CUDA
- Python and Monte Carlo particle-transport experience are advantageous. Applicants must meet CERN nationality rules and must not previously have held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
