Two-year salaried research fellowship (postdoctoral)
The Harvard University Herbaria Research Fellowship
Harvard University Herbaria
About
Two-year research fellowship in plant and/or fungal science at the Harvard University Herbaria (HUH), aimed at early-career scientists and collections professionals who see new opportunities for collections-based research. Fellows work independently under the mentorship of a Harvard faculty member, using the HUH collections of more than five million specimens of algae, bryophytes, fungi and vascular plants, including paleobotanical and archaeobotanical material and artifacts of economically important plants and fungi, together with libraries, archives, research laboratories and computational facilities.
The fellowship provides a salary commensurate with years of postdoctoral experience plus an allowance for travel and research expenses; the second year is contingent on performance in the first. Fellows must begin within one year of notification and be in full-time residence.
Requirements
Doctorate required before the start date; open to early-career individuals in plant and fungal research, and international candidates are welcome. Preference goes to applicants not currently affiliated with Harvard. Submit a cover letter, a research proposal of up to four pages (scope, approach and methods, use of HUH collections, laboratory and equipment needs, importance), a one-page research and travel budget, a CV and three letters of recommendation (due within three weeks of submission).
