Eighteen-month postdoctoral contract at the Centre de Recherche sur la Biodiversité et l’Environnement (CRBE, UMR5300), whose research addresses how environmental change interacts with living systems and the feedbacks of socio-ecological systems on that change. Working mainly with Angélique Vétillard and in collaboration with colleagues at CNAM Paris, the postdoc will use advanced artificial-intelligence methods to address the massive infestation of honeybee apiaries by the parasitic mite Varroa destructor.

The aim is to uncover correlations between Varroa infestation levels, the types of pollen consumed, changes in the haemolymph peptidome/proteome that indicate disrupted pathways, and the resulting phenotypic traits of honeybees, particularly cognition, and ultimately to build a predictive analysis tool supporting immunological investigations and cognitive tests. Activities include studying Varroa biology on bee larvae under semi-controlled laboratory and field conditions; omics analyses of the haemolymph of laboratory-reared emerging bees; analysing the long-term effects of candidate haemolymph molecules on cognitive abilities and tolerance during infestation; working with the Paris colleagues on large data streams from smart hives equipped with cameras, temperature and humidity sensors, scales and other IoT devices, including AI-based interpretation of pollen images; and writing articles.

Start date 15 December 2026; gross monthly salary €3,041–4,395 depending on experience.

Knowledge of the biology of Varroa destructor and its host Apis mellifera; omics techniques (proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics); multivariate statistics; scientific writing; autonomy, rigour and teamwork.
