About

This PhD project in the Medical Ultrasound Imaging Center (MUSIC) of the Department of Medical Imaging at Radboud university medical center investigates how artificial intelligence can help military healthcare providers acquire and interpret handheld ultrasound images in operational settings where specialist expertise and evacuation may be limited. Starting from existing AI-assisted ultrasound technologies and applications such as Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (EFAST) for detecting internal bleeding and pneumothorax, the project identifies unmet operational needs, develops and evaluates AI algorithms, and studies how they can be integrated into military medical practice, with potential benefits for civilian emergency care.

Applications close on 24 November 2026.
