About

Join Prof Rita Horvath's group in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and the John Van Geest Centre for Brain Repair on a grant from the joint call of Action Medical Research and Action for A-T to characterise biomarkers of ataxia telangiectasia. The project studies how neuron-specific biomarkers reflect the progression of ataxia and how they change on treatment with novel antisense oligonucleotides, using functional studies on neuronal stem cells and human neurons with proteomics, RNA sequencing and other omics to identify mechanisms of neurodegeneration and ataxia in children and adults.

The group develops treatments for mitochondrial diseases and other inherited rare neuromuscular diseases, and the postdoc has access to experienced bioinformaticians and to clinical samples from the MitoCamb neurogenetics clinic. Funding covers 24 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension. Salary: £37,694–£46,049. Applications close on 1 November 2026 (reference RR51412).
