About

The EPFL Laboratory of Particle Accelerator Physics (LPAP) seeks a postdoctoral researcher for the CHART-funded project "General Accelerator Design at the FCC-ee: optics, tuning knobs and collective effects studies". The work develops a robust, optimised FCC-ee lattice with emphasis on beam-beam interactions and collective effects: refining optics configurations, implementing tuning knobs and correction schemes for luminosity, beam lifetime and dynamic aperture, and designing optics that minimise nonlinearities under high-intensity conditions.

Topics may include optics compatible with high-temperature superconducting nested magnets and correction schemes for beam polarisation and top-up injection. The postdoc will coordinate collaborative activities with the FCC-ee beam physics teams, help supervise PhD students and contribute to teaching. The position starts on 1 January 2027 for one year, renewable up to three years; applications are considered until the position is filled.

Requirements

Completed PhD; strong background and track record in accelerator physics, physics-based simulation, numerical optimisation and computational design; experience with accelerator codes such as BMAD, MADX, XSUITE, SAD or GEANT4; excellent English.
