About

Åsa Mackenzie's Molecular Neuroanatomy group at Lund University studies the brain regions and circuits behind motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, focusing on the subthalamic nucleus, a key target for deep brain stimulation. Supported by the Aligning Science Across Parkinson's (ASAP) Collaborative Research Network, the project has two parts: comparative molecular and anatomical mapping of the subthalamic region in human, macaque and mouse brain tissue (in situ hybridisation, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, image analysis and spatial reconstruction), and experiments in mouse models using stereotactic surgery, viral vector delivery, optical fibre implantation, optogenetic circuit manipulation and behavioural testing.

The postdoc will also integrate histological and molecular findings into spatial datasets. Full-time, suggested start 11 January 2027 (reference PA2026/3070).

Requirements

PhD in a relevant field; hands-on experience in neuroanatomy, histology and/or rodent optogenetics and behaviour as described in the advert.
