Machine Learning, Climate Science and Atmospheric Science research Scientist (three-year project) position at The Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence

Deadline not stated
Seattle, Washington, United States

About

Develop NeuralGCM+, an open-source climate model combining machine learning with physical principles to improve projections of unseen future climates. The project builds on NeuralGCM, couples atmospheric and ML-based ocean models, and investigates which processes should remain governed by physical equations and which can be learned from historical observations. Responsibilities include model development and evaluation, open-source software, publications, and mentoring researchers.

The role is based at Ai2’s Seattle offices and supports a three-year project with a current funding period ending 22 September 2029. Continuation depends on further funding. The advertised base salary range is USD 167,030–260,570, with additional bonus plans. The employer begins reviewing applications on 19 October 2026; that review date is not an application deadline.
