Seeking a few Research Scientists or Postdoctoral Researchers (26-428)

Join the AI as Science Team in RIKEN iTHEMS’ Division of Applied Mathematical Science to study foundational artificial intelligence, especially deep learning, and its applications in natural science. Researchers conduct independent and interdisciplinary collaborative work. Prior machine-learning expertise is not mandatory: the team welcomes established expertise in physics, neuroscience, mathematics or applied mathematics and engineering, together with motivation to pursue AI research.

The one-year employment contract may renew up to three years for postdoctoral researchers or five for research scientists. Stated initial monthly salary plus discretionary-work allowance is at least JPY 480,000 or JPY 550,000 respectively. The earlier first-review date was 31 July; the employer states recruitment continues until filled.

Doctoral degree, or expected doctorate by appointment. Submit motivation letter, CV with reference 26-428, publications, research statement (two pages), research proposal (three pages), interdisciplinary statement (one page), consent form, and at least two recommendation letters.
