ISEC brings together ecologists, statisticians and quantitative researchers working on ecological inference and modelling. The main conference runs 10–15 January 2027 in Mérida, Mexico; separate pre-conference workshops run 8–9 January. Early rates run through 30 September 2026, with reduced rates for eligible Global South participants.

The conference examines how probabilistic physical descriptions can explain complex living systems. Themes include reduced-dimensional models, self-assembly, biological cycles, and the exchange and use of energy and information. Minimal models of life, inverse problems and systems with many interacting components are used to seek common theoretical principles. Introductory perspectives and contributed short talks connect physics with biology and learning. Attendance requires a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, or an accepted equivalent. Applications are subject to selection and available capacity.

This conference combines single-molecule imaging, genomics and theory to study dynamic gene regulation, from chromatin organization and transcription through RNA processing and translation. Measurements on individual DNA and RNA molecules in living systems are used to move toward predictive mechanistic models. Themes include epigenetic regulation, transcription dynamics, RNA fate, translation, quantitative theory, integration of imaging with genomics, and AI-assisted analysis of single-molecule data. The 2027 edition includes abstract-selected presentations and panel discussions on theory, AI and best practices, with participation from experimental and theoretical researchers at all career stages. Attendance is available in Heidelberg and virtually. On-site registration closes 6 April 2027; virtual registration closes 6 July 2027.
