Abstract

Stellar magnetism influences a star's structure, evolution, environment and nearby planets. The seminar distinguishes fields generated continuously by dynamos in cool stars from fossil fields retained by hot stars, and explains how spectropolarimetry measures and maps magnetic structure at stellar surfaces.
