Neutron stars and pulsars

Astronomy, Astrophysics and Physics seminar by Françoise Combes, Professor at the Collège de France

Hosted by Collège de France

Abstract

This lecture introduces neutron stars as compact remnants of stellar explosions. It examines the balance against gravitational collapse, their extreme densities and the observational role of pulsars. The Crab pulsar provides a concrete example, while the possible composition of matter deep inside these objects motivates further research.
