The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a pervasive neurodevelopmental condition, more prevalent in males, characterized by social behavior impairments. Exposure to valproic acid (VPA) during pregnancy is linked to ASD. In our VPA-mouse model experiment, we examined neuronal activation in the social decision-making network (SDMN) and stress-regulatory nuclei in the brain of juvenile male mice across diverse social settings. VPA treatment effectiveness was validated through a three-chamber sociability test, a standard method for measuring ASD-like behavior. WE used c-Fos immunohistochemistry to c

The oxidative stress and inflammation provoked by hypoxia can lead to damage to neurons in the hippocampus, a structure that plays a key role in learning and memory processes. Prevention of hypoxia-related damages may be achieved through different means: pharmacologically or behaviorally. Some plants have strong antioxidants properties, such as Guiera senegalensis (GS). Alternatively, performance of free-divers, without memory loss, suggests neuroprotective effects of extended training to apnea. We developed a rat model of hypoxia under voluntary apnea. Training consists of 3 to 4 weeks of hab

AimsChallenging behaviours, such as aggression and irritability, are manifested by up to two thirds of autistic individuals. However, despite the detrimental effects challenging behaviours, particularly aggression, have on life of autistic individuals and their families, currently available treatment options are typically borrowed from other areas of psychiatry, and the FDA approved drugs for treatment of ASD-associated irritability are burdened with serious side effects. Therefore, in this study we investigated the effects of oxytocin, a neuropeptide with reported prosocial and anti-aggressiv
