The main objective of the study was to investigate the antidepressant like effect of curcumin in olfactory bulbectomized model of depression of male wistar albino rats through behavior screening tests. Bilateral olfactory bulbectomy was performed with rats anesthetized under ketamine (50 mg/kg/i.p.).Twenty male albino wistar rats, weighing 150–220 gm were randomly allocated into four groups (n=5)- Group A (control), Group B(olfactory bulbectomy;OB), Group C {vehicle (0.9% NS, 10 ml/kg) +olfactory bulbectomy,OB} & Group D {curcumin (40 mg/kg)+ olfactory bulbectomy;OB}.Behaviour screening te

Neonatal hypoxia-ischemia (HI), restricted oxygenation and reduced cerebral bloodflow to the brain is a significant cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Therapeutic Hypothermia (TH) is the only licensed treatment for HI, however, 40% of TH-treated neonates still develop neurodevelopmental disabilities. Curcumin induces powerful antioxidant activity, with evidence of significant neuroprotection in a neonatal HI mouse model. However, curcumin has limited therapeutic usage due to poor bioavailability and aqueous insolubility. This study aimed to: i) compare free synthetic vs natural curcumi

In recent years, attention has grown on neuro-nutraceuticals and their effect on the health of the nervous system, since many compounds are characterized by antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. In the present study the effect of natural compounds (NCs), such as astaxanthin, curcumin and berberine was immunocytochemically assessed on expression of some cytoskeletal proteins, such as vimentin, Glial Fibrillary Acid Protein (GFAP) and nestin (a marker of precursor neural stem cells) in Olfactory Ensheathing Cells (OECs) exposed to amyloid-β (Aβ). In addition, we investigated on tissue tr

Aims: Alzheimer's disease (AD), a neurodegenerative disorder, exhibits cognitive decline via plaque formation, inflammation, cholinergic deficits, and oxidative stress. Curcumin, derived from turmeric, exhibits neuroprotective properties, potentially counteracting AD and Parkinson's disease. With anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, insulin-sensitizing properties, it inhibits protein aggregation. Despite the crucial role of thyroid hormones in memory, there is limited electrophysiological evidence supporting these effects. Methods: This study, involving adult Wistar rats, aimed to explore the impac
