In Genomics and Anthropology

Twelve funded four-year doctoral studentships begin on 1 October 2027. Students undertake three initial rotations across genomic research groups, including computational and experimental work, before agreeing a final laboratory and project. Funding includes tuition and stipend support regardless of nationality; international students receive visa and immigration health surcharge reimbursement. The degree is awarded by the University of Cambridge, whose admission remains a separate requirement. Apply by 24 November 2026 at 09:00 GMT; both academic references are due 1 December at 09:00 GMT.

Wayfinding through the Human Genome

Keolu Fox · University of California San Diego; Native BioData Consortium; UCSD Indigenous Futures Institute

Fri, Feb 28, 2025 · 17:30 UTC

Keolu Fox connects Polynesian wayfinding, evolutionary thought and genomic research through Indigenous Futurism. Genomes of descendants of Pacific navigators can illuminate migration histories and contemporary health challenges, while genetic data can support land reclamation, public health and cultural preservation. The lecture examines community-led research, benefit sharing and Indigenous decision-making as alternatives to extractive genomic practices. Fox also considers mobile genomic technologies that could bring research to remote communities, with applications in conservation genetics
