Evaluation of a refined carprofen-based analgesic regimen for stereotactic surgeries in rats

Aylina Glasenapp, Alina Ottlewski, Mesbah Alam, Christine Häger, Marcel Oelerich, Heike Bähre, Kerstin Schwabe, Marion Bankstahl · FENS Forum 2024

Carprofen is a commonly used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic, but data on pharmacokinetics and analgesic efficacy after neurosurgical interventions are limited. This study aimed to evaluate a carprofen-based analgesic regimen for craniotomies by monitoring plasma concentrations and physiological parameters.Sprague-Dawley rats (n=6) underwent subcutaneous transmitter implantation for heart rate and activity monitoring. Intracerebral 6-OHDA injection was conducted, and six weeks later depth electrodes were implanted. Oral carprofen treatment (10 mg/kg/24h) started the day prior to surg

Human cold pain

Felix Resch, Stefan Heber, Cosmin Ciotu, Michael Fischer · FENS Forum 2024

The sensation of cooling appears to depend largely on the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8. However, the detection of noxious cold is still controversial. Many targets have been proposed for the transduction of cold into an electrical signal. So far, there is no experimental human model that allows the application of potential antagonists at the same site as the cold. This is further complicated by the fact that the site of cold transduction is unclear. We have developed a human pain model based on intradermal injection of cooled extracellular solution into the volar forearm. This is
