An accessible hippocampal dataset for benchmarking models of cognitive mapping

Alexandra Keinath, Justin Quinn Lee, Mark Brandon · COSYNE 2023

Sat, Mar 11, 2023

Recent empirical studies have revealed spatial tuning in traditionally non-spatial brain regions, as well as coding differences across species in traditionally spatial regions. These findings have in part motivated new models of cognitive mapping that make quantitative predictions at multiple levels of explanation. Taken together, these advances highlight a growing need to quantitatively compare spatial codes across brain regions, species, levels of explanation, and against computational models. To address this need, here we leverage a Representational Similarity Analysis framework to quantita

Latent state representations in ventral hippocampus during flexible decision making

Karyna Mishchanchuk, Gabrielle Gregoriou, Alizée Kastler, Andrew MacAskill · FENS Forum 2024

The hippocampus is thought to organise knowledge about the world by binding stimuli into representations of discrete states, which can be utilised to guide flexible behaviour. In the laboratory, such states are often characterised as distinct spatial locations and contexts. However, real-life experiences are often defined by latent non-spatial contexts. Despite a hypothesised key role, the extent to which the hippocampus may form representations of such abstract states is unclear. To study the role of hippocampus in such latent state representations, we used a 2-armed bandit task in mice. In t
