Differential roles for dysregulated microRNAs after a peripheral nerve injury in neuropathic pain or nerve regeneration

microRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNAs involved in all processes in health and disease, including neuropathic pain and neuroregeneration. Upon peripheral nerve injury (PNI), dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons exhibit increased excitability and altered signaling, leading to dysregulation of their transcriptomic profiles indicative of neuropathic pain and axono-regenerative processes. The complexity of these neuronal responses makes distinguishing between the mechanisms involved in neuroregeneration and neuropathy highly challenging. To elucidate the role of miRNAs in these processes, we u

Spinal cord injury represents a complex and serious medical condition characterized by damage to the spinal cord, causing profound functional impairment. The consequences of such an injury may include paralysis, loss of sensation, and disruptions in vital bodily functions, such as bladder and bowel control. The renin-angiotensin system, predominantly acting through the AT1 receptor, regulates blood pressure and hydro-electrolytic balance. However, the AT2 receptor (AT2R) also plays a crucial role, especially in processes related to neuroregeneration. In the present study, the AT2R was stimulat
