Quantum Simulation and Quantum Computing with Fermions

Immanuel Bloch · Max Planck Institute and LMU, Munich

Fermionic platforms offer microscopic probes of quantum matter and a route to quantum computation. The talk examines pseudogap formation in the Hubbard model through spin correlations and higher-order spin–charge measurements. It then presents elementary gates acting on orbital degrees of freedom, high-fidelity operations and persistent entangled states. These tools also provide ways to measure order parameters and pairing correlations in analogue quantum simulators.

…jointly resolve difficult problems in quantum matter. The seminar reviews advances in auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo and discusses comparisons with experiments. Examples include the crossover between BCS pairing and Bose–Einstein condensation, Hubbard-model physics and possible FFLO pairing in optical lattices.

Quantum Gas Microscopy of Fermions in the Continuum

Tarik Yefsah · École normale supérieure (ENS) - LKB, Paris

This seminar extends quantum gas microscopy from lattice systems to continuous, strongly interacting Fermi gases. Measurements resolving individual atoms reveal spatial density and spin correlations, including higher-order correlations. The discussion explains how this experimental access opens questions that were difficult to investigate with earlier probes of dilute quantum matter.
