About

The Department of Physics at UMass Amherst invites applications for a faculty position in quantum physics, a broad search for candidates whose research advances the understanding, exploration or control of quantum systems, with particular interest in quantum matter and quantum many-body phenomena. The hiring priority is an experimental physicist at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level with an original scientific vision and the ability to build an independent research programme.

Areas of interest include strongly correlated quantum matter, quantum materials, quantum magnetism, unconventional superconductivity, topological phenomena and non-equilibrium quantum dynamics. Exceptionally qualified theorists in quantum matter are invited to contact the search committee chair. Expected start date 1 September 2027; approximate salary range $79,350–$124,620.

Requirements

PhD or equivalent in physics or a related field, with relevant postdoctoral experience. Evaluation of applicants begins on 1 January 2027 and may continue until a suitable candidate pool is identified; highly qualified candidates at other ranks may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
