In Physics and Quantum Mechanics

The conference examines engineered systems that use superposition and entanglement for computing, communication and measurement. Topics range from computing fundamentals and architectures to networking devices, quantum sensors and metrology. Researchers from universities, industry, government and national laboratories will discuss technical progress and the ecosystems needed to turn it into useful technologies. Co-location with the Quantum Executive Forum connects scientific developments with emerging products and applications.

Introduction to decoherence

Pascale Senellart · Research Director, CNRS - Centre de nanosciences et de nanotechnologies université - Paris-Saclay, Visiting Professor at the Collège de France

This lecture introduces decoherence through simple models of quantum systems exposed to environmental disturbances. It explains how electric or magnetic noise degrades superposition, how the effect is measured and how it can be reduced. The discussion relates these issues to the DiVincenzo requirements for quantum computers and compares major experimental platforms.
