Systemic review of cell-based therapy for cerebral infarction

Chung-Che Wu, Yung-Hsiao Chiang, Ju-Chi Ou, Kai-Yun Chen · FENS Forum 2024

This study explores the potential of stem cell therapy as a treatment for strokes, a neurological disorder resulting from impaired blood perfusion to the brain. Despite the existing use of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), its limitations underscore the necessity for novel therapy. Stem cell therapy emerges as a promising avenue.

Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) contributes to peripheral remyelination after sciatic nerve injury

Elsa Pouettre, Didier Goux, Denis Vivien, Eric Maubert, Isabelle Bardou · FENS Forum 2024

Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is a protease expressed in CNS by various cells and it is mainly known for its thrombolytic function in the treatment of stroke. While its contribution to myelination within the central nervous system is known, its involvement in peripheral remyelination processes remains to be explored. Indeed, in physiological conditions, Schwann cells, responsible for myelination, express low levels of tPA, however its expression increases following injuries to peripheral nerves. Therefore, our study focused on elucidating involvement of tPA in peripheral nervous system re
